If you’re thinking about adding a spectacular new glass veranda to your home but are put off by the thought of all the red tape around planning applications, don’t be. The good news is, in most cases adding a veranda or glass room to your property doesn’t require planning permission.
Even if a planning application is needed by your local authority, Eden Verandas will undertake the application on your behalf.
What is planning permission?
Planning permission is the approval given by the local authority to build a new house or extension to an existing property. It was introduced to stop inappropriate developments in the local area and causing privacy or light issues with neighbours.
Conservation areas and listed buildings are subjected to strict planning restrictions, while other properties may need planning consent for a large extension. Smaller home improvements are often called permitted developments and don’t need planning approval.
The good news is that if you need planning permission Eden Verandas will take care of the application process for you, allowing you to sit back and relax.
‘Everyone we’ve dealt with at Eden, from the initial enquiry, sales visit, delivery, installation team and electrician, has been a credit to the company. The whole process has been smooth and painless. We are extremely pleased with the quality of the product and hope to get many years of use from it.’ Mr A C.
What is permitted development?
Permitted development allows homeowners to do certain types of improvement work without the need to apply for planning permission.
Recent changes in planning legislation, allow for the building of a single-storey extension to the house as a permitted development. However, regulations such as the size of the extension and where it will be built do need to be followed.

Let Eden Verandas do the paperwork
From our experience very few Eden Verandas projects need planning permission. If they do, we’ll work with you to apply for your planning application or permitted development. After a consultation on the type of glass veranda or outdoor room you want, we will develop the plans and submit them to the local authority on your behalf.
