Glass rooms – do they add value?

Happy new year to all of our valued customers. Have you added home improvements to your to-do list for 2023? If so, our blog series will give you the advice and help you need.

This month we’re looking at glass rooms and whether they add value to your home. Read on for some insights to help you decide if a glass room is right for you.

What is a glass room?

A glass room is a bespoke glass extension to the outside of your house. Unlike a conservatory, which has fixed walls, a glass room allows you to slide back all the doors giving you an unobstructed view and access to your garden.

Glass rooms use glass on the roof too. So if the weather is a bit cooler or turns rainy, you will still feel like you’re sitting in your garden with the bonus of being sheltered from the elements. In hotter months, the glass will give you important UV protection against the sun.

Are glass rooms a good idea?

With the cost of living crisis and more home working, many people are opting for home improvements rather than moving house. If you’re needing more space, or want to be able to enjoy the feeling of being outside no matter the weather, a glass room may be the answer.

Glass rooms are custom designed and built to suit your home, your garden and your lifestyle. So even if you’re not thinking of selling right now, a glass room adds value because it extends your internal space, gives you more flexibility and allows you to enjoy your garden all year round.

Do glass rooms need planning permission?

In most cases adding a glass room to your property doesn’t require planning permission. Planning legislation  allows for the building of a single-storey extension to a house in what is called a permitted development. They do still have to meet size regulations to be considered a permitted development though. If planning permission is required Eden Verandas will undertake the application on your behalf.

Ultimately, as long as the glass room is installed well and adds useful space to a house, a glass room will add value. They really are a special, stylish addition to your home.If you would like to discuss adding a glass room to your home, call us for a free, no-obligation chat on 0800 157 1679.
